Discover the main sights of Saigon, now officially known as Ho Chi Minh City and travel with your guide to the Cu Chi Tunnels to experience what life was like for the Viet Cong guerillas during the US War.
What to Expect
Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is a frenetic place with markets, scooter-filled streets, sidewalk food stalls, office blocks and shopping malls. It is Vietnam’s economic powerhouse with a remarkable rate of development over the last few years.
As you’ll experience on this full-day tour, Ho Chi Minh is a quick-paced, exciting and exotic city. It is now looking towards the future with great optimism after a tumultuous 20th century.
The tour begins at your hotel as you head out to visit Saigon’s historical landmarks including the 1880s General Post Office and the late 19th-century Notre Dame Cathedral, located in a tranquil part of the city.
Next visit the Reunification Palace, the headquarters of the Saigon government during the American War. Stop at the War Remnants Museum where you’ll see displays of war relics. Enjoy lunch at a local noodle soup restaurant.
After lunch, travel from Ho Chi Minh City to the Cu Chi Tunnels. This vast network of tunnels, stretching over 150 kilometers, was built by the Viet Cong during the battles for the South. The tunnels give sobering insight into the dedication of the Viet Cong who lived almost entirely underground in the narrow and claustrophobic spaces. Watch a brief introductory video, followed by a walk through the reserve. See a chilling demonstration of the traps and weapons used against the American GIs.
The Cu Chi Tunnels have been widened and cleaned for western visitors, however it can still be dark and claustrophobic inside, so please keep this in mind if you do not like enclosed spaces.
At the site you’ll have the opportunity to shoot a range of guns, such as the AK47 and M16. Please be aware the level of noise is extremely high and although ear muffs are available, they may not provide the level of protection required.
Late in the afternoon you’ll return to Ho Chi Minh, where the tour ends.
